At IDC we have always followed the philosophy of maintaining the best possible dive training and retail facility. We are always reinvesting in our facility to offer our divers the best possible training and equipment the dive industry has to offer. Our staff are passionate about diving and are always excited to welcome new people into the underwater realm. We truly believe this is an international sport and we are always traveling to new dive site locations and sharing our experiences with all that we meet.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to IDC's website and hopefully our training facility. I have been a part of the business since its conception and in that time I have met some great divers from all backgrounds. I am very passionate about diving and I want everyone to get the most out of their experience with IDC. I have been involved in the diving industry for nearly 20 years and am always learning new things from all the great staff I have around me.

Alan has become IDC's primary resource for equipment information. He is one of our most active divers as he is constantly upgrading his skills in and out of the water. He recently completed his GUE Cave 1 in Mexico and is currently conducting IDC's Divemaster programme. Alan fulfills many roles at our shop and is one of the best technicians to have worked at IDC. Alan always has time to try to help you become a better diver, either by going out with you on a dive or evaluating your equipment configuration to make it better for you.

Landon has worked for IDC for almost 5 years. Over the course of that time he has become our primary Open Water instructor. Landon's natural exuberance and flair for education make him a favourite among students who will often request him for further diving education. Landon is involved with every new student that comes thought our doors and has become the face of IDC. Most weekends he can be found at Whytecliff park involved in training or leading a fun dive at various other local sites. Landon strives to make your diving experiences as safe and fun as possible.

Kyle is our main boat dive leader here at IDC, Kyle has several years of instructional experience in warmer waters and a background in education. He is one of IDC most popular instructor and staff member, as well as a dedicated temperate water diver. Kyle was fortunate to lead our last trip to Hardy and is always keen to share his latest dives. All of his clients have express how he truly cares about diving and making them a better diver. Kyle also has recently added a underwater video camera to his long list of underwater equipment and will soon be offer courses in both photography and underwater videography.

Jenessa has come up from the ranks of Open Water to the Instructor level. She has made IDC her second home for over 5 years. In that time she has developed into an incredible Instructor. Going to school full time and working at the shop, she still finds time to upgrade her skills and recently completed her GUE fundies course. She is also our primary EFR Instructor and has the best feedback for this course.

In the summer Ness is working up in Port Hardy with Hide A Way Charters.

Steve Redding

PADI Open Water Instructor (Specialty Instructor)


Steve hails from down under and has loads of experience with customers in the diving industry. Steve worked on the Great Barrier Reef on a floating observatory where he allow his students to explore the reef for their first time. Also he worked on liveaboards around the  Whitsunday Islands which is some of the best diving in the world. Steve has shown us in his time here that he is a real diver that is very passionate about diving and getting to know our diving community.

Martyn Bayne

PADI Course Director

Martyn became a Course Director in 2009 after completing an extensive training course in the Dominican Republic with the VP and Director of Training at PADI and associated staff.  As a recently qualified Course Director this means that Martyn is trained in the most up to date PADI training skills and philosophies.

Martyn commenced diving in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia in 1998 and has dived, on average, more than once per week since then.  He has trained and worked with 5 different Course Directors undertaking Instructor Development Training Courses in both warm and cold water. Martyn has an unparalleled understanding of the different styles of Instructor training.

Martyn is also a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia and is the only practising Course Director in the Lower Mainland with a Masters of Business Administration.

Dan MacKay

GUE Tech 2 Instructor

* Dan has been an avid diver since being initially certified as an open-water diver in 1993. Soon after that time he quickly tired of the recreational ranges of diving and began experimenting with more technical dives leading up to the full trimix in the 1998. He became a GUE instructor in 2000 and now teaches Fundamentals, Tri-ox, Tech I and Tech II programs. Dan dove almost exclusively in the Great Lakes and St Lawrence region of Canada for 17 years with the occasional foray abroad mostly to Florida or Mexico for cave diving. He recently moved to Bashaw, Alberta and intends to make the west coast his diving destination of choice and call IDC his home away from home

* Trained as a software engineer coupled with an extensive background in electronic communications, Dan is applying cutting edge technologies to the underwater realm to produce various multi-media products with is two passions of underwater video and Photography

* Dan is also very involved in developing a strong DIR community here in Vancouver and is setting up a DIR Demo Day in Late September and early October.

Kirk Krack

Performance Freediving Founder/President & Instructor

Kirk developed PFI back in 2000 after training his first diver to a world record.  He has gone on to coach 6 people to over 20 World Records and has coached the Canadian Freediving Team to many victories. He is known as one of the top Freediving Trainers in the World.  Kirk has a back ground in both SCUBA and as an Instructor Trainer for Technical Diving.

Mandy-Rae Cruickshank

Performance Freediving Instructor & Student Relations

Mandy-Rae has taught with PFI for over 6 years. She is a 7-time World Record holder and 13 time Canadian National record holder. She is also a Course Director for Scuba and a 2009 inductee into the Women Divers Hall of Fame.
